Background The Chinatown Community Development Center was founded in 1977 as two separate non-profits, the Chinatown Neighborhood Improvement Resource Center and the Chinese Community Housing Corporation, which merged in 1998. Today, the Chinatown CDC is at the forefront of community advocacy, planning, and affordable housing development in the City of San Francisco. Based in Chinatown, but also serving the North Beach and Tenderloin neighborhoods in the northeastern sector of the City, the organization recently celebrated its thirty-first year of success. The organization has 130 staff members, operates 21 affordable housing developments serving 2100 residents, and has organizing constituencies that include over 1600 people. The organization and its staff members have been the recipients of numerous awards and honors, including the Fannie Mae Sustained Excellence Award and the Bank of America Neighborhood Builder Award.
Mission The mission of the Chinatown Community Development Center is to build community and enhance the quality of life for San Francisco residents. The Chinatown Community Development Center is based in the Chinatown neighborhood and also serves other San Francisco neighborhoods including North Beach and the Tenderloin. We are a community development organization with many roles – as neighborhood advocates, organizers and planners, and as developers and managers of affordable housing. We believe in a comprehensive vision of community, a quality environment, a healthy neighborhood economy, and active voluntary associations. We are committed to the empowerment of low-income residents, diversity and coalition building, and social and economic justice.
