Background
MHN was formed in 1998 to broaden the reach of Neighborhood Housing Services of Great Falls into a wider geographic area. In 2001, MHN was independently incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 organization and continued to be supported by the staff at NHSGF. In September 2006, MHN was officially chartered as a NeighborWorks organization in its own right. It already has a strong record of productivity. In conjunction with NHSGF, MHN has created 3,080 homebuyers in 201 cities and towns of Montana. Twenty-three partners are now delivering services on the ground to MHN customers; while an additional fifteen partners provide funding and loan capital support. MHN has been successful in gathering financial support from multiple supporters: loan capital from a mortgage-backed security, the Montana Board of Housing and NeighborWorks America; operating funds from NeighborWorks America (through NHSGF), the Montana Board of Housing, HUD (through the Montana Board of Housing), Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the National Rural Funder’s Collaborative, Rural Development, the Heron Foundation among others.
