Background
Interfaith Housing Alliance was founded in 1989 by faith and community leaders who determined the need for an organized not-for-profit effort to address the affordable housing needs in the region. Since that time Interfaith Housing has grown to be the largest not-for-profit affordable housing developer in the Western Maryland Region. The organization has expanded to also serve South Central Pennsylvania.

Mission
Its mission is to strengthen families, build communities and promote human dignity and economic justice by providing decent, affordable housing for those with lower incomes. Through education, advocacy and the creation of new jobs, the organization fosters economic growth and overcomes the effects of shelter poverty. Interfaith Housing’s programs are: Self-help Homeownership, Homeownership Counseling, Revitalization, Owner Occupied Rehabilitation, Multi-family & Senior Living Rentals, and Emergency Shelters for homeless individuals and victims of domestic abuse.
