    Date Additional Accomplishment
3/31/2008 During 2007, 37 new single family, affordable homes closed. An additional 13 homes are currently under construction and expected to close in the second quarter of 2008. 15 additional families have realized the American Dream of owning their own homes through the efforts of our Housing Counselors. In December, 2007, Centro closed on 10 additonal residential lots which will be utilized to provide first time homeownership opportunities for low income families. Our Housing Counseling staff has educated, assisted and is working with a record number of clients. They have instituted an exceptional program, "Many Voices, One Community," in conjunction with FIU to assist new homeowners to develop and become part of their new communities. With the downturn in the housing market and the increase in foreclosures, Centro has expanded its services to include foreclosure assistance and anticipates working with an additional 200-300 families to help them avoid foreclosure on their homes. The Hurricane Relief Program in the areas affected by the 2004/2005 storms that hit South Central Florida will come to a close in 2008 with our having repaired, rebuilt or replaced approximately 150 homes for affected families. Centro has also worked with FEMA and has been instrumental in securing 500 FEMA mobil for low income families. Centro utilized more than 25 of the FEMA mobil homes for families devastated by the hurricanes that affected Florida in 2004/2005 Our Human Services Programs have had an outstanding year. The JobsPlus program has assisted 60 farmworkers or farmworker family members retrain for new careers. Our YouthPride program is currently serving 150 children in our after school tutoring and enrichment program, with an additonal 100 children having been served in our summer camp. The YouthBuild Program initially served a group of 15 at-risk youth with GED and on-the-job-construction training. By year end YouthBuild is expected to complete training with an additonal 15 low income individuals. Centro won awards from CitiBank and Bank of America for community development work over the past couple of years and has received recognition and support from numerous local and national organizations.
