Background
The Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc. (CDC of Tampa, Inc.) is a nonprofit community development corporation. Incorporated in 1992, it was formed for the purpose of alleviating poverty and physical deterioration in Hillsborough County’s East Tampa community. The neighborhood was plagued with dilapidated, overcrowded housing, and high rates of poverty, unemployment, teen pregnancy, school dropout/suspensions, and drug abuse. The CDC's areas of focus are: Real Estate Development: providing over 30+ million dollars in public/private ventures in residential and commercial development. The Career Resource Center provides job training and placement services - The Business Resource Center assists prospective and current small business owners by providing credit counseling, startup business training, and business plan development - The Housing Opportunity Center provides pre and post purchase counseling and Homebuyer and Financial Literacy training to empower potential homebuyers - The Audrey Spotford Youth Center programs are 100 Youth Leadership Movement; Prodigy, and East Tampa Learning Academy.
