Mission
CHRIC was incorporated in 1978 to improve the housing stock of Chautauqua County and the living conditions of its low-income residents. Primary activities include housing rehab (approximately 90 units per year), lead hazard control, homeownership education and support, adaptations and repairs for disabled persons and frail elderly (about 90 per year), lending for economic development, home improvement and work-related expenses, and personal transportation to work for low-income persons (Wheels for Work).

    2/13/2009 CHRIC was awarded a $40,000 Affordable Housing Program award from the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York to support a Main Street revitalization project in rural Sherman, NY. Based on a resident-driven plan arising out of a New York City Community Leadership Institute, CHRIC has raised $800,000 in grant funding, plus owner equity to revitalize a historic commercial block.
    2/13/2009 A partnership with the city of Jamestown, NY and a neighborhood organization called Northside PRIDE, Inc., CHRIC has acquired four vacant houses in a targeted neighborhood for substantial rehabilitation and re-sale. A recent award of $105,000 from the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation matched a city committment of $105,000 in HOME funds to assist in this neighborhood revitalization project.
