Background
Founded in 1966, Madison Park Development Corporation is one of the country's first community-based, non-profit organizations to independently develop affordable housing for low-and moderate-income residents. Madison Park has created what has been hailed as a model of resident-led community development, and has evolved to become a permanent institution providing the framework for holistic community revitalization and redevelopment in Roxbury. During the past thirty-five years, Madison Park Development Corporation has developed 877 units of rental housing and 75 units of homeownership housing. In addition, Madison Park has implemented an economic development plan that has trained over 130 former welfare recipients and unemployed individuals. Madison Park Development Corporation has organized several youth programs that aim to develop young people, and has tapped into the community's rich arts and cultural resources to foster business development among artists. Combining all of these laudable endeavors demonstrates that Madison Park Development Corporation is in the business of creating a physical, economic, social and cultural renaissance of the Roxbury area of Boston.
