Background
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership (CMHP) was founded as a result of the research and commitment of a local citizen’s forum. This group believed that there was a gap of housing affordability between families served by the public housing authority and those served by the market. The group studied many housing partnership models and determined that the best choice for Charlotte was to focus on the segment of the market not served by private business and government. CMHP has been active in multi-family and single-family development and in rehabilitation and new construction. Through its efforts, CMHP promotes and provides housing for low and moderate-income families and works to stabilize and revitalize targeted inner city neighborhoods. In addition, CMHP plays an essential role in educating families, the community, and other community-based organizations with respect to housing and homeownership. CMHP was incorporated in 1988.

Mission

(CMHP) is a broad-based, private, nonprofit housing development and financial corporation organized to expand affordable and well-maintained housing within stable neighborhoods for low- and moderate-income families in the city of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County with a continuing interest in the ability of occupants to more fully enter the economic mainstream.
