Background
Palm Beach County has the twin challenges of being a very high growth area and having great disparity of incomes. Housing costs are high and many residents need assistance in order to purchase or rent a suitable home. Housing Partnership, Inc. was formed in 1986 to respond to these challenges, and its staff members are active in homeownership, rental, and social service programs. Recognizing that “bricks and mortar” go only so far in meeting their families’ needs, Housing Partnership significantly broadened its scope over the years to offer an array of human services that complement its housing services. HOUSING SERVICES: HOME OWNERSHIP AND INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT ACCOUNT (IDA) PROGRAM: The IDA Program is a matched-savings program for homeownership or for a micro-enterprise small business. MONEY MANAGEMENT: Through the money management service, residents can receive credit counseling and help in resolving credit issues, learn how to manage a checking or savings account, and learn how to manage a budget. FINANCIAL EDUCATION: Information is a powerful tool. Prosperity Centers offer, Financial Fitness classes, homebuyer education classes and individualized information that help families find their own path to prosperity. EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL ASSISTANCE: Prosperity Centers can help residents learn how to obtain a better job, earn their G.E.D., receive educational and vocational planning, college placement, and financial aid. FREE INCOME-TAX PREPARATION ASSISTANCE: The free tax service provides year-round tax service for filing present and past taxes. Last year, through United Way’s Prosperity Campaign, residents who used the free tax service saved $1 million in filing fees. BENEFITS ASSISTANCE: This service screens residents to see which benefits they are qualified to receive such as food stamps, KidCare, Medicare and Medicaid. HOUSING PROGRAMS AND HOME OWNERSHIP COUNSELING: LENDING: The lending department provides mortgage products for first mortgages and down payment and closing cost assistance at low interest rates. HOUSING COUNSELING: We provide pre and post purchase homeownership counseling as well as financial literacy classes and foreclosure intervention services. HOUSING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES: We provide 29 units of housing for people with serious and chronic mental illness as well as supportive housing services and rental housing counseling to low and moderate income families.
