Background
NOAH is an East Boston based CDC. We were organized as a Chapter 180 non-profit in 1987. We have 17 Board members. We are currently a staff of 21 with a budget of $1.5M. We began doing Strategic Planning and Business Planning in 1995. Our current Business Plan ‘expired’ at the beginning of 2004. We have found ourselves operating a variety of programs outside of our traditional East Boston base. We tweaked our Mission Statement in 1998 but it now needs a definitive revision. At our Board meeting on January 22, 2004 the Board began the analysis and revision process. They talked about ‘core values,’ goals, key words and phrases, new ideas etc. They want to meet with staff, and then take a number of months to vet this issue before concretizing the new mission statement. Surely it will retain a focus on affordable housing, collaboration, community organizing and environmental justice, valuing diversity and respecting neighborhood persons. The organization is open to examining different forms of governance, but wants to retain a deep commitment to serving East Boston.

Mission
NOAH, the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, is an East Boston based community development corporation structured to collaborate with and support residents and communities in their pursuit of affordable housing strategies, environmental justice, community planning, leadership development, and economic development opportunities. NOAH eagerly partners with those residents, neighborhood entities, municipalities or groups that share similar values and goals in order to improve standards of living, build community, and create social/economic opportunities, especially for low and moderate-income persons, families and disadvantaged groups or areas. NOAH's goals and programs are built on a commitment to equality, fairness, diversity and respect for all people.
