Background
San Juan NHS was created in February, 1996 through a collaborative effort between the municipal government, Neighborhood Reinvestment, and community leaders from seven neighborhoods in Santurce, San Juan's inner-city. The neighborhoods in San Juan NHS' impact area are: Figueroa, El Gandul, Alto del Cabro, Campo Alegre, Tras Talleres, Hipodromo, Bolivar, and communities between Stop 15 and Stop 26 in Santurce. The San Juan NHS offers home buyer education; finances home purchases and rehabilitation; provides rehabilitation and construction management assistance; and sustains aggressive community building and resident leadership development initiatives.

Mission
The mission of the San Juan Neighborhood Housing Services (SJNHS) is to develop the participation of residents, the private sector, municipal and state government to promote the revitalization and improvement of the San Juan communities, granting special attention to the aspects related to the development and reconstruction of homes, economic development, social development, education, and human development of the people in the impacted area served by the organization. Our goal is to create stronger and self-sufficient communities.
