Background
Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley provides programs and services that promote and support responsible home ownership as a means of revitalizing lower-income neighborhoods in San Jose. Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley was organized in 1995 by a group of local citizens with support from the City of San Jose Department of Housing.

Mission
Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley (NHSSV) works to improve the living environment of lower income families in selected neighborhoods of the City of San Jose and its broader metropolitan area. In partnership with neighborhood residents, the business community, local government, financial institutions, and community organizations, NHSSV provides programs and services that promote and support responsible home ownership as a means of revitalizing neighborhoods and engendering community pride and economic stability among residents.

  • Invested $1,127,500 in the community through Neighborhood Housing Services Silicon Valley's revolving loan fund, which leveraged $16,054,919 from conventional lenders and other sources.

    2/4/2003 Received certification from the US Department of Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI).
    7/25/2003 Received CDFI's $1 million Financial Assistance (FA) Component Award for FY 2004.
    3/13/2004 First institution to receive CDFI's FA Component Award two years consecutively. Received $900,000 for FY 2005.
    6/6/2004 Became the first and only non-profit lender in the State of California to receive CalHFA approval as a direct lender.
    8/26/2008 Became a Fannie Mae approved lender
    7/14/2008 Received CDFI's $1 million Financial Assistance (FA) Component Award for FY 2008.
