Background
NeighborWorks Greater Manchester Services was incorporated in 1992 to combat neighborhood deterioration in the Center City of Manchester. NeighborWorks Greater Manchester currently services the entire City of Manchester and surrounding towns in the Greater Manchester region, providing affordable housing/real estate development renovation and reconstruction; resident leadership and community building initiatives; and home ownership and financial fitness seminars and counseling programs.

  • Invested $270,800 in the community through Manchester Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc.'s revolving loan fund, which leveraged $16,602,636 from conventional lenders and other sources.

    12/20/2004 • Developed 266 family rental apartments in Manchester • Developed the first LIHTC project sponsored by a NH nonprofit • Developed and sold to first-time homebuyers Renaissance Homes, 8 attached fee simple townhouses and the first new construction in the neighborhood in 20 years • Developed and sold to first-time homebuyers REBUILD Phase I and Phase II, six renovated buildings • Developed gallery space • Facilitated a neighborhood initiative to save the block (between Union and Pine, Merrimack and Laurel Streets) from development of a new police station • Started a neighborhood cleanup that eventually became Adopt- a-Block • Led a neighborhood campaign that closed down three local bars • Helped create the Pine Street Friendship Garden • Created the Cedar Street Family Park and the Auburn Street Family Park • Brought community policing to the neighborhood • Organized local park cleanup • Organized and supported the community process that resulted in Manchester being designated an Enterprise Community by HUD • Won the first “Youthbuild” grant in NH NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center of Manchester – A comprehensive homebuyer counseling and financing program to help low-income families buy their own homes • Operates “NeighborWorks® HomeOwnership Center” in downtown retail location as part of a national program • Offers over 75 educational programs each year, including orientations, home ownership seminars, home buyer financial literacy clubs, landlord trainings, post purchase group counseling workshops, and anti-predatory lending workshops • Provided homeownership counseling to over 4,000 families • Offered the first New Hampshire homeownership seminars in Vietnamese and Spanish • Is the lead non-profit organization for the state-wide Financial Fitness Program • Provided financial fitness training to 389 individuals since 2001 • Enrolled 289 individuals in an Individual Development Account (IDA) savings program • Began offering home mortgages and down payment/closing cost assistance loans statewide in 2000
