Background
Neighborhood Housing Services of Laredo-Webb (NHS) is a nonprofit organization established in 1991 to strengthen and revitalize Laredo area neighborhoods and communities. Its goal is to reverse patterns of disinvestment and deterioration and stabilize the housing stock by assisting families in the home buying process and the rehabilitation of older homes. This process of neighborhood reinvestment is occurring through a partnership of residents, business leaders, lending institutions, and the City of Laredo. Aside from one City operated program, NHS is the only non-profit in the Laredo area offering such housing assistance services. NHS is governed by a 13 member Board of Directors with membership comprised of 51% residents and 49% business/lending institution/city government. NHS has been designated as a Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) and is a member of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation’s national NeighborWorks? network. The Laredo-Webb NHS is a Full-Cycle Lender Certified HomeOwnership Center.

Mission
To combat community deterioration and to secure decent, safe and sanitary housing, conductive to the progress and general welfare of Laredo neighborhoods and Webb County.
