Homewise recently completed and put under contract the final home of Evergreen, an 80-unit housing development in Santa Fe. This development has increased the dwindling supply of affordable homes in the area. This development is unique because its focus is on using energy and water efficiently to preserve natural resources and keep the long-term cost of living in the home affordable for the homeowner.
All homes are Energy Star(R) rated. |

Teacherwise is a partnership between Homewise and the Santa Fe Public School District which offers an opportunity for teachers to purchase or repair homes in Santa Fe, with the goal improving the quality of life for teachers and ultimately reducing the high rate of turnover among teachers. Building on the initial success of Teacherwise, the SFPSD recently expanded the program to include all Santa Fe public school employees. Recently SFPS School Board celebrated the 100th school employee to become a homeowner through the Teacherwise program. |

On June 4, 2008, Homewise, along with Governor Bill Richardson and representative of the City and County of Santa Fe, New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority and NeighborWorks® America, broke ground on Desert Sage, Homewise’s newest neighborhood. Located off of Richards Avenue, South of Governor Miles Road, the 80-unit development will be built to high construction and quality standards and will include energy and water saving features well beyond those required by building codes. The project will provide Santa Fe families with affordable homeownership options, while also setting a new standard for the design and construction of affordable, energy- and water-conserving homes.
Affordable Housing to Strengthen Santa Fe’s Families
• Homewise’s new subdivision will consist of 80 units, ranging in price from $97,000 for the most affordable 2-bedroom unit to about $275,000 for a market rate 4 bedroom unit
• All homes will be affordable to families earning $60,000 or less
• At least 50 of the homes will be priced below $200,000
• The 27-acre site includes a neighborhood park and more than 8 acres of open space
Green Building To Protect the Environment
• Domestic solar hot water and recirculating hot water pumps
• All homes individually tested and EnergyStar Certified to be at least 30% more energy efficient than the national model building code
• Blown-in and under slab insulation
• Passive solar design reducing heating and lighting costs
• Energy Star Appliances, including front loading washing machine and refrigerator
• Low-E Windows
• Low flow plumbing fixtures and appliances
• Xeriscaped yard and common area landscaping
