Background
Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of San Antonio is a private, non-profit community-based development corporation, a community development financial institution (CDFI), and a designated Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) via the City of San Antonio, Bexar County and the State of Texas. NHS of San Antonio began in the 1970’s as the Mexican American Unity Council and in 1989, merged with another NHS that was also operating in San Antonio to form the corporation that exists today. NHS is committed to providing safe, decent, affordable housing opportunities to qualified families and neighborhoods. Partnerships with the public and private sectors enable NHS to work in targeted areas throughout Bexar County. Today NHS is an affodable housing lender, builder, developer, and home buyer counselor. NHS of San Antonio’s Board of Directors is comprised of 12 members consisting of service area Residents and represenatives from financial institutions, the business sector, and local government. In addition to its designation as a CHDO and CDFI, NHS is also a member of the national NeighborWorks America network.
