Background
NeighborWorks Anchorage was founded in December 1981 by a partnership of Spenard Neighborhood residents, business leaders, and government officials. Initially the organization set out to revitalize the residential and commercial districts of the Spenard neighborhood, but has since moved on to target resources in four additional neighborhoods and provide housing services throughout Anchorage (population 280,000). Today, NeighborWorks Anchorage provides continuum of care housing services for all phases of affordable shelter needs for a wide segment of the population: individuals and families who are at risk of homelessness; those who require affordable apartment rental; lower-income people ready for homeownership. NeighborWorks Anchorage also provides housing rehab services for seniors and individuals with disabilities, services for residents in its multifamily properties, and community building and leadership development in targeted neighborhoods.

Mission
NeighborWorks Anchorage is dedicated to revitalizing Anchorage neighborhoods through the design and implementation of community development strategies and the creation of affordable housing. NeighborWorks Anchorage will serve as a catalyst for long term change through the use of public/private partnerships and the involvement of the greater community.
