Background
Background: Neighborhood Housing Services of the South Shore was originally founded in 1981 as Neighborhood Housing Services of Quincy, a public-private partnership created for the purpose of revitalizing low and moderate-income neighborhoods in the city of Quincy. Since then, Neighborhood Housing has grown from a small, neighborhood revitalization program based in a single neighborhood of Quincy into a large, highly respected organization working in 24 communities on the South Shore and providing a wide variety of affordable housing opportunities to low and moderate income residents. Neighborhood Housing, alone and through partnership with local social service providers has developed a total of 110 units of affordable housing. The agency currently owns and manages 87 units of affordable housing and has assisted more than 600 homeowners to improve their homes. Through its homeownership program, Neighborhood Housing has educated nearly 4000 prospective homeowners and has helped more than 1000 of them become homeowners for the first time.
