Background
Clearwater NHS was founded in 1979 and originally organized as a small two person NHS working in the South Greenwood neighborhood. In the eighties, CNHS expanded its services, first to homeownership lending, then to commercial lending and later to real estate development. Later the organization expanded its service delivery area to include the North Greenwood community. Since 1996, CNHS is a multifaceted organization providing services to both North and South Greenwood. Lead by Ms. Gulley, who is a longtime neighborhood resident and who joined the staff as an administrative assistant in the early eighties and rose through the staff ranks to her present position. Governed by a 17-member Board of Directors of which 51% are residents of its primary focus communities of North and South Greenwood. CNHS was the first NHS in Florida chartered by Neighborhood Reinvestment Co. The NHS believes in the holistic approach to community revitalization where people can own and live in homes that are attractive and reasonably priced.
