Background Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Toledo Inc. was started in 1976 by a group of residents in Toledo's Old West End neighborhood who were concerned about the spread of disinvestment in their historic area. With help from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and the city of Toledo, NHS became incorporated in 1977 and was equipped with capital resources for lending and infrastructure improvements. In 1978, NHS was expanded to serve the South Toledo neighborhood and East Toledo in 1992. Our purpose is to provide services to residents in designated areas in such matters as: information on housing and community improvement; stimulate neighborhood improvement; advocate for government services; share revitalization information; provide technical assistance; community organization and financial support of same; and other activities and functions as are proper.
Mission The Neighborhood Housing Services of Toledo is a nonprofit corporation comprising of a partnership of neighborhood residents, financial institutions, local government and others. The purpose of NHS is to restore and revitalize the NHS neighborhoods, primarily for the benefit of current and future inhabitants, by providing services and programs which renew pride, stimulate reinvestment and restore confidence and trust.
