NeighborWorks of Pueblo was founded in 1977 to help rebuild local neighborhoods and promote affordable housing in Pueblo, Colorado, through reinvestment activities and community involvement.

    1/17/2001 Implemented a Financial Fitness Program, allowing our Affordable Housing Loan Specialist extended personal contact with clients.
    1/17/2001 Closed 5 loans through our Section 8 Homeownership Program. This program offers an intensive series of counseling sessions for very low-income families (typically at 50% of Pueblo's median income) that are currently receiving public housing assistance.
    1/17/2001 Developed and sold 19 lots in our 79-unit, 20-acre, Hyde Park Gardens Subdivision.
    8/1/2003 NW of Pueblo has been accepted as an approved Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA) Homebuyer Education provider. CHFA is a public enterprise working to finance affordable housing, business and economic growth opportunities for Colorado. CHFA programs offer a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage loan with a below-market interest rate, as well as an optional deferred second mortgage to assist with down payment and/or closing costs. All CHFA borrowers who are first-time homebuyers are required to attend a CHFA-approved Homeebuyer Education Class prior to closing the loan for their property.
    1/1/2004 Partnered with the Bessemer Association for Neighborhood Development to complete a Physical Inventory of our newest target neighborhood, Bessemer. In Bessemer, NW of Pueblo has established goals that include the painting of 20 homes, rehabilitation of 12 homes, 2 infill housing starts, and the renovation of 2 area businesses.
    9/11/2004 Painted 35 homes for Pueblo's low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners through our annual Operation Paintbrush. A total of 20 homes were painted in NW of Pueblo's Bessemer target neighborhood.
    11/10/2004 Assisted 80 families this calendar year in purchasing a home through homeownership counseling, down payment, closing cost or financing assistance.
    11/10/2004 Completed build-out of our 32-unit Liberty Gardens Subdivision.
    1/19/2006 Working with local contractors, NeighborWorks of Pueblo has introduced four new homes into the Bessemer neighborhood. These homes are the first new construction in this neighborhood since 2001.
    12/31/2005 Since 2002, NeighborWorks® of Pueblo has assisted 19 families that were once on the verge of losing their home due to loss of income or skyrocketing medical bills.
    11/1/2005 Approved as a Medicaid Home Modification Program provider.
    9/17/2005 More than 400 volunteers painted 30 homes through Operation Paintbrush.
    3/31/2005 Helped 103 families purchase their first home this year.
    1/3/2005 Completed rehabilitation of an old Dollar Mart building located in the heart of Bessemer at the corner of Routt and Northern Avenue to house the new NeighborWorks office. In addition to a spacious training room, adequate office space for staff and a tool lending library, the additional square footage provided retail space that made it possible for us to attract three new businesses into the Bessemer Neighborhood.
    6/24/2006 Successfully partnered with the Bessemer Historical Society on the first annual Best of Bessemer on Mesa Avenue event. This event allowed Bessemer's finest restaurants to provide free samples of their signature dishes to the public while providing art exhibitions and kiddie rides as well!
    9/9/2006 On September 9, 2006 NeighborWorks of Pueblo coordinated more than 400 volunteers that painted the homes of 36 of Pueblo's low-income, elderly, and disabled homeowners.
    1/1/2007 During the calendar year 2006, NeighborWorks of Pueblo assisted 175 individuals in purchasing their first homes.
    2/20/2007 Developed 23 additional lots located in Phase IIA of the Hyde Park Gardens Subdivision for a total of 54 out of 79 possible.
    3/10/2007 Over 500 people attended the 7th Annual Builders' Surplus Sale. The collaborative event involves local contractors and suppliers who donate their surplus building materials. The event is sponsored by the Pueblo Association of Homebuilders and is held as a fundraiser for NeighborWorks of Pueblo.
    5/30/2007 Bessemer Expansion Project Attitudinal Survey completed and information compiled for the community meeting.
    6/9/2007 Bessemer Community Meeting held to give residents an opportunity to voice their concerns about their neighborhoods and learn more about the Bessemer Expansion Project.
    6/23/2007 The 2nd Annual Best of Bessemer on Mesa Avenue was held in the heart of Bessemer. NeighborWorks of Pueblo once again partnered with Bessemer Historical Society to make it a successful event.
    7/14/2007 In collaboration with several entities including the Pueblo District Attorney's office, Consumer Credit Counseling, Pueblo's Public Trustee, CHFA, and local lenders, NeighborWorks of Pueblo presented valuable information at another Foreclosure Prevention/Predatory Lending Forum.
    4/9/2007 Pueblo City Council approved the $500,000 HOME funds grant application submitted by NeighborWorks of Pueblo for the Bessemer Expansion Project.
    9/8/2007 The 24th Annual Operation Paintbrush was held and 33 homes were painted for elderly homeowners.
    1/12/2008 Over 80 youth from area churches volunteered to clean up the alleys in a 15 block area of Bessemer during the Litterbug Patrol Alley Cleanup Day.
    3/15/2008 The 8th Annual Builders' Surplus Sale was held offering participants a chance to purchase building materials at greatly reduced prices.
    4/26/2008 NeighborWorks of Pueblo participated in the annual Bessemer clean up day. Trash, old furniture, and other debris was removed from Cedar Street as part of the Street of Dreams Model Block project.
    5/22/2008 NeighborWorks of Pueblo celebrated with dignitaries, members, and rotary club members in the accomplishment of completing the building mural and the capital campaign for the project.
    6/14/2008 The 3rd Annual Best of Bessemer event was held at the Bessemer Historical Society SteelWorks Musuem property.
    6/27/2008 Volunteers assisted NeighborWorks of Pueblo staff members in completing the Operation Landscape phase of the Street of Dreams Model Block Project.
    9/13/2008 The 25th Annual Operation Paintbrush was held with the majority of the homes being painted in the Bessemer area of Pueblo. Nine homes were painted along the 1100 block of the Street of Dreams Model Block Project. Over 330 volunteers participated in the event.
