Background
Neighborhood Housing Services of Birmingham, Inc. (NHSB) is a public-private partnership between residents, local government, the business sector, faith-based entities, financial institutions, and other social service agencies. In 2005, the service area was expanded to include all of Jefferson County, Alabama. NHSB has a 15-member Board of Directors and operates upon a 5-line business strategy that drives the provision of programs and services. The lines of business include (1) Homeownership Preservation, (2) Homeownership Promotion, (3) Property and Asset Management, (4) Real Estate Development, and (5) Community Building and Organizing.

Mission
To serve as a provider of homeownership opportunities and affordable housing, as well as stimulate reinvestment in low to moderate income neighborhoods of the City of Birmingham and Jefferson County by formulating partnerships with neighborhood residents, local government, financial institutions, faith-based entities, social service agencies, and businesses.
