Background
MHA of South Central CT is a private nonprofit partnership organization established in 1992 to develop, own and manage affordable housing in the community's interest. Residents do not individually own their homes but govern the organization that owns their property. Residents have a lifetime right to occupy their homes and have the right to nominate a family member or household member as a successor. Since our first acquisition in 1996 Mutual Housing has grown steadily. They offer a unique mix of urban and suburban developments in five towns totaling 237 units with plans for an additional 230 units in four other towns. Mutual Housing also believes that housing alone isn't the answer, so they have offer a variety of courses and development programs through our Resident Training and Initiatives division. The most popular are the First Time Homebuyer Seminars, which were created to serve the needs of our residents who expressed interest in becoming homeowners. In conjunction with this program Mutual Housing has built and sold three First Time Homebuyer Affordable homes and has plans to construct 10 more First Time Homebuyer homes in 2008. In 2007, MHA of South Central CT completed a Trademark License Agreement with NeighborWorks® America to use NeighborWorks® New Horizons as its "doing business as" name. The new name and logo was announced at the fifteenth Annual Meeting in October of 2007.
